Coral Springs High School Cheer Team Earns National Recognition {Coral Springs High School Cheer}
The Coral Springs High School competitive cheerleading team earned 13th place out of 42 teams at the Universal Cheerleaders Association Competition at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando.
The Colts competed in the small non-tumbling division on February 7 and 8. During the preliminary competition on Friday, the team earned a place in the semifinals. On Saturday, coach Amanda Mortimer said they performed well but did not finish among the top nine teams and did not qualify for the finals.
“It was an amazing experience for the girls to participate in a national competition with teams from all over the country,” said Mortimer.
Competitive cheerleading requires more technique and skill than football and basketball cheerleading. The participants must master gymnastic techniques and work well together, added Mortimer.
