A Coral Springs man was arrested for the sexual battery of a child after a 14-year-old girl told police he had been sexually abusing her for years. The man faces four charges of lewd or lascivious conduct and 14 charges of sexual assault of a minor.
On April 29, the Coral Springs Police completed an investigation into a man, later identified as Ryneil Atkins, 42, after a child said he had repeatedly sexually abused her. The victim came forward after police interviewed her regarding a separate investigation into the possible abuse by Atkins of another victim.
Initially, during an interview about Atkins, the girl did not come forward but later confided in a relative that she was keenly aware of what he was capable of.
According to the report, the victim recounted to officers how the abuse began as far back as 2018 when she was only 11-years-old. She said the abuse began in Margate and had continued until as recently as this March in Coral Springs.
The report said the victim told officers the assaults started with Atkins asking her if she was a virgin and went from there. The victim described at least 12 instances of sexual abuse.
The victim kept the abuse a secret for years before recently telling a friend on social media what had happened. The friend reportedly told her that if she did not go to the police, they would do it for her.
After completing their investigation into Atkins, officers arrested him and transported him to the Broward County Main Jail, where he is currently being held without bond.
