Coral Springs and Parkland students will have an exciting opportunity to share their voices during the annual Teen Political Forum (TPF) on Tuesday, April 4.
The event, taking place at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts, provides students with an open-mic-style platform to ask questions and converse with state, county, and local elected officials who will serve on a panel to give answers.
This year's theme, "Broadcast Your Voice," is about encouraging students to share their thoughts and concerns openly via in-person and digital channels.
This annual educational event, created by former mayor Roy Gold in 2007, is organized by students from Coral Glades, Coral Springs High, Coral Springs Charter, J.P. Taravella, and Marjory Stoneman Douglas, with guidance from city staff.
“This generation of teens and young adults is one of the most socially aware and politically informed generations in history,” said City Commissioner and TPF liaison Joshua Simmons. “I’m proud to be a part of a city that provides a platform for youth to ask important – and sometimes tough – questions of their elected officials.”
Even those who cannot attend the event in person can still participate. Students and spectators can tweet questions or comments to the account @TeenPolForum using #TeenPoliticalForum to interact digitally with the event.
The school with the highest attendance will win cash prizes of up to $1,000 for their school. The prizes are sponsored by Baptist Health and WastePro of Florida.
