Residents and activists are planning a peaceful protest and candlelight vigil on Friday evening to demand an end to what organizers describe as “ICE terror” in local communities following the death of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old woman who was fatally shot by federal immigration agents during an enforcement action in Minneapolis earlier this week.
The event, titled “ICE OUT FOR GOOD — Stop ICE Terror Protest and Candlelight Vigil for Renee Good,” is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 9, from 5–7 p.m. in Coral Springs and is being organized by the local grassroots group Joyful Resistance in collaboration with Indivisible activists.
Organizers are calling on community members to join them for the demonstration — a peaceful protest followed by a candlelight vigil to honor Good’s life and show solidarity with others affected by immigration enforcement. The gathering is also meant to spotlight broader concerns about federal immigration enforcement policies and their impact on families and communities nationwide.
The protest comes amid a wave of demonstrations across the country after the Minneapolis shooting, where multiple states and cities have seen residents march, rally, and hold vigils in response to Good’s death. Supporters maintain that the event in Coral Springs reflects a growing local and national push for accountability and reforms in how immigration enforcement is conducted.
Participants are encouraged to bring candles and signs to the corner of University Drive and Sample Road in front of the libary and to join in a moment of reflection following the protest march.
According to a statement, the vigil aims to be a peaceful opportunity for community members to mourn and call for change.
