A Coral Springs woman was involved in a multi-vehicle crash that left a man dead Thursday, authorities said.
Around 2:40 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, Broward County Regional Communications received a call reporting a crash with injuries involving several vehicles near the 1500 block of Southwest 46th Avenue in Pompano Beach.
A preliminary investigation by Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide unit detectives revealed that the drivers of a 2012 Chevrolet Express and a 2018 Freightliner box truck were stopped in the northbound right lane of Southwest 46th Avenue due to the Freightliner being disabled, authorities said.
According to detectives, Francine Gomes, 27, of Coral Springs, was driving a 2024 Hyundai Elantra north on Southwest 46th Avenue in the right lane when the front of her Elantra collided with the back of the Chevrolet, pushing the Chevrolet into the rear of the Freightliner.
Aurelio Gonzalez, 76, of West Palm Beach, the only passenger in the Chevrolet, suffered terminal injuries in the crash. He died July 28 at North Broward Medical Center, investigators said.
The drivers of the Chevrolet and the Freightliner were not inside their vehicles at the time of the crash, according to BSO.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, authorities said. No arrests have been announced in the case.
