For the fourth time in school history, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Eagle Regiment was crowned State Champions Saturday at the Bands of America Orlando Regional Championship in Fort Lauderdale.
This season, The Eagles took their first-ever trip to the Bands of America Grand National Championships, resulting in two incredible performances. It featured a first-time semifinalist and then posted the highest BOA scores in MSD’s history.
Then for the second year in a row, the Eagle Regiment earned Grand Champion at all local shows and repeated with a second consecutive State Championship. They won “Best in Class” in music, general effect, visuals, color guard, and percussion. They were the only marching band to score above 90 and recorded a 95.35, the highest score in MSD’s history and .55 away from matching the highest score in FMBC’s history, set in 1999.
“This has been a tremendous year of firsts for the Eagle Regiment Marching Band,” said Band Director Steve Rivero. “I must give thanks to our other directors, Robbie Rivero, Dean Broadbent, our design team, our staff, our marching eagles parent association, and the amazing students of the Eagle Regiment.”
