The Sawgrass Nature Center & Wildlife Hospital has a new donation box.
It was designed and built by Nate Rojas for his Eagle Scout project and now sits in front of the main building at the Nature Center.
“If he had not built this box for us, we would have to buy a new one, so this benefits us,” said Robin Reccasina, Executive Director.
The Nature Center has benefited from other Eagle Scout projects over the years. Several animal enclosures were built by Eagle Scout candidates, and other items, including a storage shed and benches, have been built on the campus, according to Reccasina.
“We appreciate the work the Eagle Scouts have done for us,” she said.
The Eagle Scout award is the highest achievement rank in Scouting America, formerly the Boy Scouts of America. To earn this award, a young person must demonstrate strong leadership and complete at least 21 merit badges.
The candidate must also develop and lead a major service project that benefits a school or community group outside of scouting, according to the Scouting America website.
