A Coral Springs man is accused of attacking his ex-partner’s new boyfriend with an open box cutter after the man arrived at her home for a date, according to police.
According to a Coral Springs Police Department report, Bud Kwon J. Brayboy Jr., 37, was arrested in the early morning hours on July 15 and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.
Officers responded to an apartment in the 6200 block of Wiles Road after a 911 caller reported hearing loud banging, a man and woman arguing, a woman yelling, “Get off of me, you’re hurting me,” and racial slurs coming from inside the residence, the report states.
According to police, the victim told investigators he had been invited to the apartment by a woman he had been dating for more than three years. When he entered the residence, he encountered Brayboy, the father of the woman’s children, who also lived there and reportedly told him he was not allowed inside.
The report states the confrontation escalated as the two men moved toward a staircase inside the apartment. The victim told officers Brayboy aggressively stepped in front of him, leading to a physical struggle that caused both men to fall down the stairs.
After the fall, the victim said Brayboy pulled out a green box cutter and a struggle ensued while the woman escaped the apartment, according to investigators.
The woman involved in the incident told officers she saw Brayboy holding the green box cutter and, fearing he was about to use it, grabbed his arms to restrain him. During the struggle, she suffered a minor laceration to her left thigh.
Investigators recovered a green box cutter from Brayboy’s backpack after he consented to a search.
Brayboy was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
