The longest tendered travel baseball team in South Florida is heading back to its roots, with original coaches Todd Fitz-Gerald and Von Stertzbach returning to the Florida Pokers.
Fitz-Gerald is coming off of winning his second State Championship in six years with Marjory Stoneman Douglas and will be coaching the 16u team. Stertzbach, who played for Fitz-Gerald in high school and played professionally with the Anaheim Angels, is going to coach both the 10u and 12u teams.
The owner of the Florida Pokers, Lenny Roberts, is thrilled to have two original coaches returning.
“To have these guys back teaching baseball, developing players, and more importantly, people, these are the core values that separated us from the rest before and will return the original Florida Pokers to the top of amateur baseball,” Roberts said.
Their mission has been to provide a program where serious baseball players could play the most competitive schedule possible and help them play in high school, then college to further their education.
Roberts’ son, Caleb, was recently selected in the fifth round of the 2021 MLB draft. He is one of more than 50 players who played with the Pokers and was drafted. They have also had over 500 players move on to play baseball collegiately.
Both coaches, along with Rob Georgio, will begin their seasons in September. Coach Georgio is currently coaching the 15U baseball team, which has won three tournaments this summer.
