A former Coral Springs Charter School student was arrested for trespassing on school property Tuesday, police said.
A Coral Springs Police School Resource Officer arrested the male juvenile suspect around 2 p.m. after he entered the school’s property at 3205 N. University Dr. during a fire drill, authorities said.
According to police, the former student had no weapons and did not make any threats.
In a prepared statement shared on the police department’s Facebook page, Coral Springs Charter School Principal Gary Springer said:
“We are so proud of our students for alerting adults and for the quick actions of our safety team when a former student was located on campus without authorization. The individual was arrested and removed from campus within three minutes of his arrival. We will take all appropriate actions to continue to ensure the safety of our students.”
A video posted on social media purported to show the juvenile suspect sitting in a school classroom surrounded by students, then standing up and walking to the front of the room as a police officer entered. The suspect was then handcuffed and arrested.
In the wake of the incident, some parents have posted on social media asking for more security at the campus and for information about how the suspect was able to enter the school.
Police did not release additional information about the incident in their Facebook post.
