Florida Power & Light Company is expanding scholarship opportunities for high school seniors interested in science, technology, engineering and math, offering three awards for students involved in robotics and drone programs.
The company will award two $20,000 scholarships to students who have participated in robotics programs such as FIRST, VEX, or B.E.S.T., and one $5,000 scholarship to a student involved in the Drones in School program.
“We’re thrilled to expand our scholarship programs for eligible high school seniors,” said Kate Cotner, FPL director of community engagement. “Robotics and drones offer fantastic opportunities for students to build critical skills in problem-solving, teamwork, and innovation—all essential in today’s fast-changing world. By supporting these programs, we’re investing in the future and empowering the next generation of STEM leaders.”
The scholarships are open to public and private high school seniors across FPL’s service area who plan to pursue higher education in a STEM-related field.
Robotics scholarship applicants must have participated in a FIRST, B.E.S.T., or VEX robotics program for at least two years, with participation completed within the past two years. Eligible students must plan to enroll full-time at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school during the 2026–2027 academic year and pursue a degree in engineering, information management, or another approved STEM-related program.
Applicants must also be in good standing with their robotics club, provide a letter of recommendation from a robotics coach or teacher, and maintain a minimum weighted GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent.
“This scholarship was extremely beneficial for both myself and my family,” said Umair Kazi, the 2025 recipient of FPL’s Robotics Scholarship. “It allowed me to attend Georgia Tech out of state, which I absolutely love. I’m very grateful.”
The Drones in School scholarship is open to students who have participated in the program for at least 2 years and completed it within the past 2 years. Applicants must plan to enroll in a post-secondary vocational, technical or trade school program, or a two- or four-year college or university during the 2026–2027 academic year.
Students applying for the drone scholarship must pursue a degree, license, or certification in aviation, a trade, or a vocational field, remain in good standing with their drone club, and provide a letter of recommendation from a coach or teacher. There is no minimum GPA requirement for this scholarship.
Applications are now open and will close April 13, 2026.
