Ferreira Ramos Pereira {BSO}
A man wanted for multiple aggravated assault charges was arrested while working as a painter inside Coral Park Elementary School, according to police.
According to Coral Springs Police Department records, Wesley Henrique Ferreira Ramos Pereira, 37, of Pompano Beach, is facing three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of culpable negligence stemming from an April 6 incident in Deerfield Beach.
According to investigators, the case began when Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a disturbance involving a domestic dispute tied to child custody issues. During the confrontation, Pereira allegedly drove aggressively toward multiple victims, nearly striking them and an infant child.
Authorities say Pereira then exited his vehicle, attempted to attack one of the victims, and pulled out a firearm. He allegedly pointed the weapon at multiple people, including a woman and a child, before chasing one victim through a trailer park in his vehicle. The victim was able to call 911 while fleeing. Pereira fled the scene before deputies arrived.
A warrant for his arrest was issued on April 7.
Days later, Coral Springs Police and BSO detectives began working together to track him down. According to the arrest report, investigators received a tip that Pereira could be found at Coral Park Elementary School, located at 8401 Westview Drive.
While surveilling the campus, detectives spotted Pereira through a classroom window, where he appeared to be working as a painter, wearing a long white sleeveless shirt and a white hat while painting the walls inside the school.
Around 5:00 p.m., officers observed him leaving the building with several other workers and walking toward the parking lot. Detectives exited unmarked vehicles and issued repeated commands ordering him to the ground.
Investigators say Pereira refused to comply and appeared to be looking for a way to escape. Due to the violent nature of the charges and his prior history of fleeing law enforcement, a K-9 unit was deployed to assist in taking him into custody.
According to the district, Pereira works for a subcontracted company and does not work for Broward County Public Schools.
He was detained at the scene and later transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
