A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help repair Hellenic restaurant after an early-morning vandalism attack left the Coral Springs business with 10 shattered windows and extensive damage.
The restaurant, located at 10436 W Atlantic Blvd., is owned by chef-owner Nikol Zarbalas. Staff had been preparing to host a baby shower breakfast Sunday when they arrived to find broken glass and the space “turned upside down,” Zarbalas said.
The fundraiser was created by Xiomara Alvarez, a friend of Zarbalas, who described her as “one of the most generous and selfless people I know,” citing her history of helping homeless people and others in need.
“Recently, her restaurant was vandalized, and all of the windows were shattered,” Alvarez wrote on the fundraiser page. “The damage is extensive and heartbreaking, especially for someone who has given so much to others.”
As of Tuesday morning, the campaign had raised $3,218 toward its $4,000 goal.
“The cost to repair the windows and fix the damages is overwhelming, and she simply does not deserve to face this hardship alone,” Alvarez wrote.
Funds raised will go directly toward replacing the broken windows and restoring the restaurant so it can continue serving the community.
Despite the attack Hellenic has remained open, with staff quickly cleaning up and shifting to outdoor dining service the same day.
A glass company secured the restaurant immediately and already has new windows on the way, arriving this week, Zarbalas said.
No information about potential suspects has been released.
In a Facebook post Monday, Zarbalas had a message for the vandal or vandalists.
“To whoever thought this would slow us down—you clearly don’t know who you’re dealing with. You didn’t break us. You woke up an entire community. My community. My home,” Zarbalas wrote.
“For every call, every message, every person who stopped by to check on my team, my kids, my home…me,” she said. “For the flowers, the notes, the little trinkets filled with love. There are no words big enough for what that means to me and my family.
“And as for me…Yes, I’ve been emotional. But not because of broken glass. Because I’ve found myself on the receiving end of something I’ve always tried to give—community, support, love. And that…that hits home.”
