A woman was arrested this week after authorities served an outstanding warrant accusing her of fraudulently obtaining tens of thousands of dollars in public assistance benefits over several years.
Coral Springs Police Department records show Christina Davilla, 56, of Tamarac, was taken into custody on January 20 following a traffic stop near North University Drive and Westview Drive.
Records show the arrest stemmed from a felony warrant issued in connection with a long-running welfare fraud case investigated by the Florida Department of Financial Services.
The arrest report claims Davilla is charged with misappropriating public assistance welfare funds. Investigators allege she knowingly misrepresented her employment and income information to obtain benefits she was not legally entitled to.
Investigators allege Davilla failed to report employment and wages over multiple reporting periods, allowing her to continue receiving food assistance and Medicaid benefits despite being ineligible.
Authorities allege the improper payments totaled more than $34,000, including approximately $14,900 in food assistance benefits and nearly $19,800 in Medicaid program benefits.
Court records indicate the original offense dates back several years, with the alleged fraud spanning from 2018 through 2022. A warrant was issued in April 2024 after Davilla was finally located and taken into custody by CSPD this past week.
Davilla was booked into the Broward County Main Jail and later released on a $2,500 bond.
