Carla Hart has a passion for helping children succeed and reach their full potential.
As the new principal of James S. Hunt Elementary School in Coral Springs, she looks forward to creating a culture of success and will encourage teachers to set high standards for their students. Last year, Hunt earned a B grade for its overall academic performance, missing an A by one percentage point, according to Hart.
“I want the teachers to buy into the goal of improving the culture of the school. I believe in setting goals and meeting people where they are. The focus of our school must be on the students,” said Hart.
She believes that teachers must set goals for children and help them reach their full potential. “I have found that boys don’t like to read so I would give them comic books, and they liked them. Sometimes, giving a student a sticker for doing well on an assignment is a valuable motivational tool.” She added that it was important to find what motivates each student.
As a leader, Hart believes it is essential to be supportive and compassionate toward the teachers. “Teaching can be a hard job, and I want all the teachers at Hunt to know that I am there for them,” she said.
Last year, Hart was the principal of Larkdale Elementary School, where she worked to improve a school facing challenges. Hart believes that Hunt will achieve an A next year, and she is looking forward to leading the teachers and students to success.
