Colleen Champion is disappointed with the direction the United States is headed and wants to see change.
“I want people to know what the Trump administration is about. I want to be part of the solution and make changes such as justice for all,” said Champion.
She was part of a demonstration called “Workers Over Billionaires” in Coral Springs, organized by Joyful Resistance South Florida, which aims to prioritize the interests of working people over those of the wealthy and big corporations. They stood with signs south of the intersection of University Drive and Sample Road on Labor Day, September 1.
Many of the demonstrators are against President Trump and the policies of his administration and held signs calling him a fascist.
“I am here because I am upset about what the government is doing,” said Lara Underwood.
A self-described old hippy, Eileen Grove, said she is upset about the current government and wants change and more compassion in the nation.

Many people sought a fairer, more compassionate, and tolerant society. “I am sick of what is taking place in our country. Trump and his supporters are destroying the American dream, and there is too much greed,” said Les Gordon.
Mari Kraljic, one of the leaders of Joyful Resistance, said the demonstration took place on Labor Day to promote the interests of working people over those of billionaires and powerful corporations. “We are concerned about workers’ rights and the needs of everyday people,” said Kraljic.
One of the founders of Joyful Resistance, Christine Calareso Bleecker of Coral Springs, said that over 1,000 similar events were planned nationwide on Labor Day. “We want to honor working people and advocate for the rights of workers over billionaires,” said Bleecker. The organization had a tent and distributed water in front of the Northwest Regional Library.
Joyful Resistance considers itself a group of ordinary people fed up with the current state of America. Members include students, parents, children, grandparents, teachers, religious leaders, and others. Members stand for justice and humanity, knowing their power to fight authoritarianism. The organization is committed to doing good in local communities, according to the Joyful Resistance website.

During the Coral Springs demonstration, dog and cat food were collected for the Saving Sage Animal Rescue Foundation in Sunrise, as Joyful Resistance aims to provide tangible benefits to the community, according to Kraljic.
