Lightning Disrupts Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for Newly Renovated Riverside Fitness Park in Coral Springs

Newly Renovated Riverside Fitness Park in Coral Springs {David Volz}

Coral Springs city and community leaders gathered for a ribbon cutting at the recently renovated Riverside Fitness Park on August 8.

Members of the commission and people who play and exercise at the park cut the ribbon. Unfortunately, a lightning warning cut the event short. The plan was to have a Move with the Mayor pickleball event led by Commissioner Joy Carter. Mayor Scott Brook, Carter, and city staff were dressed in athletic attire and ready to play, but the weather got in the way.

According to Lynne Martzall, spokesperson for the city, Riverside Park was recently renovated and improved. Ten new pickleball courts, a basketball court, a running track, a fitness course, and new bathrooms have been added. It is a place where people of all athletic abilities can come and play competitive games or enjoy some exercise.

According to Catherine Givens, deputy city manager, the renovations cost about $700,000 and were paid for by an American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant.

Brook loves the improved park. He brought his paddle and was ready to play. “This is a nice park, and I like to come here and play pickleball,” he said.

Carter was also hoping to play some pickleball. “This is good for Coral Springs because now we have more pickleball courts,” she said.
