A malfunctioning water line connected to a coffee machine in a third-floor breakroom at Coral Springs City Hall caused water damage to portions of the building over the weekend, officials said.
Public Works staffers and the Chief Building Official responded to the scene to assess conditions and confirm the building remains safe. The water damage has been documented for insurance purposes and a professional restoration company has been brought in to begin mitigation and drying efforts, city spokesperson Lynne Martzall said.
Out of an abundance of caution and to ensure city operations continue without interruption, City Manager Catherine Givens activated the city’s emergency management protocols on Sunday, officials said. Senior city leadership coordinated notifications to employees impacted by the incident and found them temporary work locations.
The city departments impacted by the incident include Information Technology, Community Development, and Communications and Marketing, officials said. Staff members have been successfully relocated and are continuing with their duties, according to the city.
There has been no impact to public access or city services, Martzall said, and the city’s computer servers were not damaged in the incident.
The city was working with its insurance carrier and restoration team Monday to assess the extent of the water damage, she said.
