An irate Margate man smashed his way through the driver’s side window of a car with his bare hands and assaulted the driver in Coral Springs Friday, court records show.
Boyd Haynes, 51, of 1009 NW 62nd Ave., carried out the road rage assault in the 10600 block of West Atlantic Boulevard around 2:40 p.m., according to an arrest affidavit.
The report did not specify what set Haynes off, but police said he was driving a white Subaru when he began tailgating the male victim and driving erratically around the victim’s vehicle, the affidavit states.
In a left turn lane on Atlantic boulevard, Haynes got out of his car, walked over to the victim’s window, and “aggressively” slapped the window several times with an open hand until it broke, enabling Haynes to “get at” the victim, according to Coral Springs Police.
The victim was recording the attack with his phone as Haynes broke through the glass and struck him several times with his hand, police said.
Police arrived and found the bloodied victim moving away from Haynes as the attacker “angrily” approached and yelled at him outside the damaged car, records show.
The victim was taken to Broward Health Coral Springs for wounds to his hands caused by the shattered glass, police said.
Haynes was charged with burglary with assault.
Records show he was booked into the Broward County Main Jail and released on a $1,000 cash bond.

Aggressive driving and road rage seem to be happening everywhere, all the time. CSPD has two new traffic enforcement officers in unmarked vehicles but I’m not sure what impact this is having. Drivers seem to have no concerns about getting into a crash, there’s 20-24% driving around with no insurance coverage…which helps to explain why there’s so many hit-and-runs and why we pay too much for car insurance. Distracted driving is becoming an epidemic as every time I look out the side window people are staring at their phones. Common courtesy or following traffic laws has become nearly extinct as people habitually blow by stop signs, run red lights well after it’s changed, swapping lanes like they’re in a video game, and 20+ over the speed limit…even in their own neighborhood.
Please make him pay for the damaged vehicle, the hospital and probably therapy fees, lock him until he learns basic civility, and revoke his license for good. Enough of these nuts on the road endangering all the rest of us. DO SOMETHING! People drive like maniacs not caring one bit how close they come to killing people.
