Jason Freedman was honored during the March 25 commission meeting for earning the Broward County Public Schools Career and Technical Education Teacher of the Year at Coral Springs High School.
He teaches game design and technology and looks for ways to make academics more engaging for students. Freedman has built the school’s esports team into a powerhouse, and the Colts have won first place in the Broward County Rocket League competition for three consecutive years. He believes the team will win again this year.
“I look for ways to make my courses relevant to my students. Many of my former students keep in touch and keep me informed on the latest developments in gaming and technology,” said Freedman.
For winning the CTE Teacher of the Year, Freedman received a plaque, a jacket, $1,000, and $4,999 to improve his classroom. “I will use the money to buy 3D printers,” he said.
Coral Springs High Principal Dwayne Dixon is proud of Freedman and said, “Jason brings a high level of knowledge to students and sets a high standard for education.”
