They say all you need is love, and the Broward County School Board couldn’t agree more.
On October 18, they unanimously approved a revision to this year’s school calendar by designating February 14, 2020, as “A Day of Service and Love” to commemorate those who died or were affected by the 2018 school shooting.
The decision moved an early release day, originally scheduled for Thursday, February 20, to Friday, February 14.
School Board member Lori Alhadeff, who lost her daughter Alyssa in the massacre, hopes students will use the day to remember and honor the 17 that were tragically taken that day.
The request, presented by the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Commemoration Planning Committee and the Calendar Committee, included designating the day as “A Day of Service and Love” across all Broward County Public Schools.
The Commemoration Planning Committee is currently preparing activities to commemorate the victims.
