A chaotic scene unfolded at Miller's Ale House when a former employee attacked a bartender, causing customers to intervene.
According to documents filed by the Coral Springs Police Department, the assailant, Omar Bouayad, 30, of Miramar, was arrested for burglary and battery on December 30 following the assault that took place at its 1915 North University Drive location.
The report shows that Bouayad, who was terminated as a Miller Ale House employee on October 22, confronted a current employee and bartender at the restaurant.
The victim reported that Bouayad initiated a heated exchange over a past disagreement and that the situation quickly escalated when Bouayad, visibly intoxicated, followed him from the indoor area to the outdoor patio area, continuing his tirade.
Bouayad allegedly lept into the employee-restricted area behind the bar despite the bartender's attempts to defuse the situation. Witnesses described to CSPD officers a chaotic scene as Bouayad tackled the bartender to the ground and wrestled with him, resulting in visible injuries to the victim's neck.
Employees and patrons eventually broke up the altercation before the bartender sustained severe injury.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers detained and questioned Bouayad, who acknowledged the confrontation, claiming a previous incident with the bartender sparked it.
He admitted to entering the restricted area and engaging in a physical struggle with the victim.
A bystander corroborated the sequence of events, confirming Bouayad's aggressive behavior and unauthorized entry into the employee-only area.
The incident was also captured on the restaurant's CCTV system, showing Bouayad's aggressive approach and subsequent attack.
Bouayad was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He was later released after posting a $7,500 bond.
