The Ramblewood Middle School Girls’ basketball team defeated Renaissance Charter Coral Springs 30 to 25 on Monday, to advance to the Broward County semi-finals.
The game was hard fought and, at times, could have been described as a scrum. Ramblewood Athletic Director Russell Anderson thought the team could have played better, but he was happy with the win.
“This has been a great year for the girls’ team,” said Anderson. “We have a core group of girls who play together outside school. Most have played together on a travel team called Bad Girls Basketball.”
Anderson has been impressed by how the girls have jelled together to create a top-notch middle school team. “They have good chemistry, and they play well together,” he said.
Summer Williams is considered the team leader and is likely to have a bright future in basketball. Other core players include Samantha Hill, Ayailah Daley, Alyssa Wan, and Kiarra Campbell. The team had a 10-0 regular season record and has won two playoff games. They won the first playoff game against Pompano Beach Middle School, 39 to 8.
The Ramblewood team is preparing for the game against Millennium Middle School in Tamarac at Pompano Beach High School on Monday, December 11, at 5 p.m. The teams played earlier in the season, and Ramblewood won 40 to 12.
Anderson said that basketball is a popular sport at Ramblewood. During the game against Renaissance, the gymnasium was packed with enthusiastic and loud fans.
