A town hall meeting about gun violence will be hosted by U.S. Rep Ted Deutch on Tuesday in Coral Springs.
Rep Deutch, whose district covers Parkland, said he has seen the tremendous pain in his community after the school shooting took place at Marjory Stoneman Douglas. He has listened to his constituents and will share what he’s doing on a national level to strengthen gun laws.
In February, Rep. Deutch joined 154 Democratic colleagues to introduce the “Assault Weapons Ban of 2018.“Americans don’t own tanks or missiles; so why should our streets be flooded with weapons of war made for the sole purpose of killing people?”
In March, he helped introduce a bipartisan bill which would raise the minimum age requirement from 18 to 21 for gun buyers purchasing any firearm, including shotguns or rifles, from federally licensed dealers. Currently, the federal minimum age requirement to purchase handguns is 21, while the minimum age requirement for shotguns or rifles is 18.
The event will be held on Tuesday, April 3, from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts at 2855 Coral Springs Drive. Everyone is invited to attend.
