The J.P. Taravella and Coral Glades Boys and Girls Swim teams both celebrated their senior nights by holding a fishbowl swim meet at the Coral Springs Aquatic Complex on October 8th.
The Jaguars and Trojans enjoyed less competitive swimming events, followed by pizza and cupcakes.
The seniors shared fond memories of their time on the swim team. Taravella’s Zane Samms, who competes in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle, said he has enjoyed being part of relay teams. “Overall, it has been a positive experience for me,” he said.
Victoria Sosa loved competing in the 400 and 200 freestyle and relays. “I enjoyed competing on the relay at last year’s state championship meet,” she said.
Coach Candy Allen is proud of the effort the senior Trojans have made over the years. “They have worked hard and done well, and I believe our team will do well at the county and district meets,” she said.
The Coral Glades senior swimmers were all girls, and they have enjoyed success over the years. Brooke Harter has achieved success in the backstroke and is looking forward to the district meet. “I have enjoyed being on the team and have many positive memories,” she said.
Other Jaguars seniors include Allura Buelvas, who swims freestyle and breaststroke, Nissie Cadette, who swims freestyle, and Valentina Arango, who is a diver.
Coach Mark Vanvoorhis is pleased with the seniors, noting they have achieved success. “If a swimmer is willing to come to practice and put in the effort, they have a place on the team and can do well. This gives them a chance to be on a varsity team,” he said.
He said that up-and-coming boys’ team swimmers include Benjamin Deneui and Galen Tortorella.
