2025 Mitzvah Day at Temple Beth Torah Sha’aray Tzedek. {TBTST}
Temple Beth Torah Sha’aray Tzedek will welcome residents of all faiths for its annual Mitzvah Day and Open House on Sunday, Aug. 16, bringing together volunteers for a morning of community service while showcasing the synagogue’s programs and mission.
The event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the synagogue, 5700 NW 94th Ave., with the entrance located through the rear parking lot off Northwest 58th Street near the Tamarac Aquatic Center.
According to a statement from the synagogue, the event is designed to unite clergy, educators, congregants, prospective members, and community residents in projects benefiting local nonprofit organizations. Synagogue clergy, educators and leadership will also be available to answer questions about membership and religious education programs.
The annual event is centered on the Jewish values of mitzvah, meaning good deeds or commandments, tzedakah, the practice of philanthropy and social justice, and Tikkun Olam, the concept of repairing the world through acts of kindness and service.
This year’s volunteer projects include assembling hundreds of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for Craig’s Pantry in Plantation, collecting clothing for veterans’ homes and Women in Distress of Broward County, assembling craft kits for JAFCO’s Children’s Ability Center, creating baby bibs and collecting infant clothing for Kids in Distress and the Florida Guardian ad Litem program, and making blankets for Broward Health Children’s Hospital in Coral Springs.
A OneBlood Big Red Bus will also be on-site from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., giving visitors an opportunity to donate blood.
Temple Beth Torah Sha’aray Tzedek is also launching a Welcome Home Membership promotion during the event. New members who join between Aug. 16 and Sept. 1 and pay during the promotional period will receive complimentary High Holiday seats and Break Fast meals for everyone in their membership household, including children.
Organizers said the promotion is intended to welcome individuals and families seeking a Jewish spiritual home or religious education for their children.
Temple Beth Torah Sha’aray Tzedek is an egalitarian Conservative synagogue serving West Broward County. The congregation includes members from a wide range of backgrounds, including interfaith families, LGBTQ members, families with children and individuals of all ages.
