J.P. Taravella High School will host a countywide Chess4Life tournament for grades K-12 on Saturday, March 7, offering students from elementary through high school an opportunity to test their skills in a structured competition.
The tournament begins with doors opening at 8 a.m. and the first round at 9 a.m. at J.P. Taravella High, 10600 Riverside Drive.
Participants are encouraged to arrive by 8:35 a.m. for check-in. The event follows a non-elimination format, allowing players to compete in all rounds regardless of results, organizers say.
The event is part of the Chess4Life scholastic program offered in Broward County Public Schools, which aims to promote critical thinking and academic growth through chess competition and curriculum.
Chess4Life events are open to all skill levels and are intended to be both competitive and inclusive.
Parents and supporters are welcome to attend and encourage competitors.
Registration for the competition is available online through the official Chess4Life event page. Participants and families are advised to register early to secure a spot.
