An 18-year-old man was arrested earlier this month for carrying a gun inside the Coral Square Mall, court records show.
Daniel Parra brought a Smith & Wesson 9-millimeter pistol into the shopping mall and was not licensed to carry a firearm, according to Coral Springs Police.
Parra was spotted with the gun on Dec. 10 near the mall’s Victoria’s Secret shop at 9053 W. Atlantic Blvd., shortly after 2 p.m., according to an arrest affidavit. The mall’s security director called police to report the gun after a mall vendor told him he had spotted the outline of a pistol in the mall patron’s waistband, the affidavit states.
The security director also saw the gun sticking out of Parra’s waistband, half-tucked into a leather holster, according to police.
Police arrived, seized the gun, and read Parra his rights, records show. He told them “that he got the weapon from a friend, but would not reveal the identity of the friend,” according to the affidavit.
Parra, of Sunrise was booked into the Broward Main Jail on a charge of carrying a concealed firearm. He was later released on a $1,000 bond, records show.
