Veterans Day Ceremony in Coral Springs

Veterans Day was observed today in Coral Springs with a moving ceremony that included the family of Warrant Officer Joseph L. Schiro, who was killed in Afghanistan.

The event included a welcome by Alan Paley, of the Jewish War Veterans Post 606.   The Invocation was given by Deacon Denis Mieyal of St. Andrew Catholic Church and the Presentation of Colors was given by Major Rick Strul and the Coral Springs Civil Air Patrol.

Fernando Vega, U.S. Army Staff Sergeant was the featured speaker. At only 26 years old, Vega has served eight years as a Combat Engineer and has been deployed twice to Iraq.

The family of Joseph L. Schiro was in the audience including his wife Diana, their three young children, mother Holly and father Joseph S. who put away his speech and spoke from his heart, thanking all military for their service.

Schiro, 27, was a JP Taravella graduate and died serving his fourth deployment of Afghanistan in October.
