A woman is accused of slashing a Coral Springs phone store employee’s face with keys after a dispute over a $95 phone transfer fee, according to police.
According to a Coral Springs Police Department arrest report, Rayven Jennifer Davis-Jernigan, 25, of Pompano Beach, came into the cell phone store on July 8 to transfer her existing cellphone number to a new device.
The name and location of the cell phone store are both redacted in the report.
Records show that after an employee explained the service would cost $95, Davis-Jernigan allegedly declined the service and demanded her cellphone be returned immediately. Police said the employee told Davis-Jernigan she would speak with a manager to see if there were other options. Investigators say Davis-Jernigan then became even angrier and allegedly threatened the employee, saying, “If you don’t give me my phone back, I’m going to slap you.”
Witnesses told officers Davis-Jernigan then walked behind the customer service counter into an employee-only area to retrieve the phone herself.
According to the report, the employee threw the cellphone onto the countertop to avoid further confrontation. Police say Davis-Jernigan then shoved the employee, and the two started fighting.
The victim told police she was punched multiple times in the face while Davis-Jernigan allegedly held a bracelet with a set of keys attached, causing multiple cuts near the victim’s left eye. Coral Springs Fire Rescue transported the employee to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.
Davis-Jernigan later admitted to becoming frustrated after learning about the $95 fee and acknowledged telling the employee she would retrieve the phone herself if it was not returned, according to the affidavit. She also admitted to walking behind the counter and starting the fight.
Davis-Jernigan was arrested and transferred to the Broward County Main Jail.
