In an unfortunate turn of events, Danny Moore, a devoted husband, father, and long-term employee of the City of Coral Springs, passed away at 43 while attending to his cancer-stricken mother.

Danny spent 13 years as a turf coordinator with the Parks and Recreation Department in Coral Springs, where he was praised for his dedication and hard work.

Born and raised in Margate, he and his wife Patti, a teacher at Margate Elementary, were childhood sweethearts who met during their high school years at Coconut Creek High School. The couple raised two daughters, Emily, 11, and Erin, 18.

After working for five years with the City of Tamarac, Danny returned to his role in Coral Springs until his untimely death on April 28, 2021. He was an active community member throughout his career, even assisting with COVID-19 vaccinations at Coral Square Mall.

According to Patti, throughout his career, Danny worked in different city departments and especially enjoyed participating in many city events, including the COVID-19 vaccination site at the Coral Square Mall.

On the night he passed, Danny was staying with his parents in Margate to be by his ailing mother’s side. Sadly, within an hour of Danny’s unexpected death in his sleep due to hypertensive arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease, exacerbated by sleep apnea, his mother also passed away.

“On that day, my daughters lost their father and grandmother,” said Patti.

Charlie Gumula, Parks and Rec administrator at the City of Coral Springs said Danny was a “great guy with an awesome sense of humor,” describing him as a hard worker with a good work ethic who was not afraid to jump in and take on a task.

“He was on our turf crew responsible for maintaining our sports fields. [He] took pride in making them the best fields possible.”

Gumula said Danny was a family man who loved spending time with Patti and the kids and was close to his mother. A couple of times, when the city painted the lacrosse field at Coral Springs High School, he would paint his older daughter’s jersey number on the field where she would play.

“She would say it was to embarrass her, but he did it to let her know he was thinking about her and how proud he was that she was playing out there.”

Knowing he enjoyed playing golf, Danny’s friends and coworkers wanted a way to honor him and organized the Danny Moore Golf Outing. Last year was the second memorial golf outing in his name, with proceeds going into a college fund for their two daughters.

“I am beyond blessed the city would like to continue this event until Emily graduates high school in 2027,” said Patti, adding, “I know the team of friends and coworkers at the city are working on making this year’s event as successful but are still looking for businesses in the city to be tee sponsors and still have several spots left for golfers.”

The Third Annual Danny Moore Golf Outing is held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 23, at the Country Club of Coral Springs at 10800 W Sample Rd. A four-person scramble costs $125 per golfer and includes golf, food, water, and prizes.
