Two Coral Springs candidates won their seats uncontested after the qualifying period ended at noon on Friday according to the City Clerk’s office.
Both Mayor Skip Campbell and Commissioner Joy Carter will not face an opponent for their seats. Only commission seat 3, held by Commissioner Larry Vignola, faces an opponent this year with newcomer Karen Jones, who qualified to run against him on Friday.
“I’m lucky,” said Skip Campbell. “I feel honored that people, I think, believe I’m trying to do a good job for the citizens, and they’re going to give me another two years and bring this plane in for a landing.”
Campbell said his future plans will be getting current projects underway including working on the infrastructure tax to see if they can get that passed – which he said will help all of the cities in Broward County. Mainly, he said he wants to make sure he keeps the taxes and spending low and be fiscally responsible.
The good news is, he said he can concentrate on city matters and doesn’t have to spend time campaigning.
The election for city commissioner seat 3 will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016.
