The Coral Springs Charter Schools girl’s soccer team advanced to the District Finals following their win over Saint John Paul Academy II in penalty kicks.
The Panthers, who improved their record to 17-2-1 this season, had no problems scoring goals all season. In their 19 games going into Thursday’s game, they had scored 86 goals, including four in their previous matchup versus Saint John Paul Academy.
However, the Panthers were held scoreless through regulation and two overtimes before they scored three goals in penalty kicks from Emily Kahler, Erin Dunne, and Madison Micioni.
Goaltender Kelsey Dunne allowed just one goal in penalty kicks en route to her 17th win of the season. The Panthers had six corner kicks and 12 shots in the game and completely outplayed their opponent despite the extra time.
The Panthers will head into the District Finals, having not having a single defeat since December 13 against Pine Crest.
They will be facing American Heritage, who won their semifinals game 8-0 on Thursday. CSC played American Heritage earlier this season and lost 5-1. The winner of this game will automatically qualify for regionals next month.
