The future is certainly bright for incoming freshman Sophia Bertorelli of Coral Springs Charter after being selected to participate in the 14U Softball Future’s Game on Thursday, July 1, in Colorado.
Bertorelli, who resides in Coral Springs, spent her first season on the Coral Springs Charter varsity softball team this spring. She also competes for the Tampa Mustangs Viruelt, where she will initially be playing in a Round Robin Tournament starting Tuesday, June 29.
For the Future’s Game, she was one of 56 players selected in the United States.
“It means so much to me to have the opportunity to play in this game,” Bertorelli said. “I am so honored to be selected by my coach, Willie Viruet, and then selected out of all the athletes that they could have chosen to play.”
Bertorelli only began her softball career at the age of ten but has quickly blossomed into a superstar. She says she did it to spend more time with her sister, Isabella, who is also on the CSC softball team.
Sophia was a key part of the Panthers in 2021 after winning 21-4 this past season. She pitched in 12 games and made one start, and threw a complete-game shutout. Bertorelli also had three hits in 17 at-bats and scored two runs.
“Sophia has a bright future, said Head Coach Mark Montimurro. She dominates kids her age and has shown flashes of brilliance in the circle against high school hitters. She could lead Charter to another state title one day.”
Bertorelli will continue to play travel softball for the Mustangs, where she is 7-1 with a 1.39 ERA. She has 82 strikeouts in 57 innings. She will also have four more years on the varsity softball team.
