J.P. Taravella’s Tanaris Jean-Pierre had a terrific performance in Regionals and became the only male runner in Coral Springs to advance to the State Championship.
While the Trojans finished in tenth place, Jean-Pierre had one of the three best times from teams that did not qualify. He finished 23rd overall with a time of 17:59 to make states for the first time.
“It means a lot to me because of the amount of work I put into running finally paid off,” Jean-Pierre said. “This was my goal since my sophomore year, and to reach my goal my senior year after all the ups and down means everything.”
This year, his top performance came in the Falcon Invitational at C.B. Smith Park on September 24, when he recorded a time of 17:31 –over a minute faster than his time at Districts, where the Trojans qualified after coming in sixth.
“He’s put a lot of work in starting from late July to now,” said Head Coach Arnold Hopkins. “He’s healthy and willing to put the hard work in, and it has paid off big time with him making it to states.”
JPT had six numbers of runners compete as well. Tyler James recorded the second-best time for the Trojans at 18:58. Marcos Noriega came in 62nd while Akeam Beckford, Jaylen Amoa, and Gabriel Francis Joseph competed.
Next, Jean-Pierre will run in states at the Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee on Friday, November 12, which then hosts the NCAA Division I tournament a week later.
