On Tuesday, it was senior night for the J.P. Taravella boys and girls lacrosse team.
The boy’s team was coming off their first win of the season against Coral Springs High School and honored Aidan Deabreu, Nathaniel Astacio, Lorenzo Leja, Andrew Del Pozo, Rimsky Lopez, Bryan Richards, Andrew Maingot, Jacob Amundson, and Jonathan Carn.
They ended up falling 9-4, and with one game left in the regular season, the Trojans are currently 1-13. They will face off against Coral Springs High School in a rematch on Friday, April 8, at 6 p.m. before opening the District Championship against Boca Raton Community High School on April 11.
The J.P. Taravella girls lacrosse team pulled out a 9-4 win to move to 4-5. Their seniors, who have mostly been there for three to four years, are Valentina Perdomo, Valeria Ramirez, Kamryn Herzog, Hailey Zaichick, Victoria Mann, and Kalanie Cepeda-Thompson.
Cepeda-Thompson scored five of the nine goals. Zaichick recorded two, while Perdomo and Mann each had one.
“I have to give props to the seniors this year, and without them season, it wouldn’t have been able to happen,” said Head Coach Megan Letizia. “They all stepped up as leaders and were examples to the younger girls while I was out during the fall at the fire academy.”
Next, JPT will play Coral Glades on Thursday, April 7, at 4 p.m. They will then play South Plantation High School in their first District Championship. The Paladins went 4-8 this year but beat JPT 18-7 earlier this season.
