A Hollywood woman wanted for assault was captured in Coral Springs after allegedly throwing hot cooking oil on a man, causing significant bodily harm.
According to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, officers responded to Broward Health Medical Center (BHMC) on January 2 regarding an aggravated battery incident.
The victim, who was treated for significant burns to his arm, head, and neck, informed officers that his female friend, identified as Candice Carter, 40, of Hollywood, had thrown hot cooking oil on him.
The incident reportedly occurred at the victim’s residence in Fort Lauderdale, where Carter was temporarily staying.
According to an arrest warrant, the victim stated that he and Carter had a previous romantic relationship but were no longer dating at the time of the incident.
On the day of the incident, the victim told officers that the two had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The victim left the residence to purchase cigarettes and returned to find the door open.
The victim claims the assault occurred as he began to ascend the stairs to his second-floor residence, where Carter allegedly exited holding a pot of hot cooking oil and poured it onto him.
Following the attack, Carter reportedly left the scene but returned briefly to collect some of her belongings before leaving again.
The victim was initially treated at BHMC but was later transferred to Ryder Trauma Center in Miami for further medical attention due to the severity of his burns.
On January 24, the victim provided a sworn, taped statement at the temporary FLPD Headquarters. He reiterated the details of the incident and identified Carter from a photograph.
Medical records show the victim had several follow-up appointments with doctors and still bore noticeable burn injuries on his arm, neck, and face.
Based on the information provided by the victim, the FLPD issued a warrant for Candice Carter’s arrest on charges of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.
The Coral Springs Police Department located Carter during a traffic stop and took her into custody on July 18. She was later released after posting a $7,500 bond.
