Jenn Bakowski is concerned about the direction of the United States.
As a co-leader of Joyful Resistance South Florida, she helped organize and lead the No Kings Protest, which opposed the Trump administration’s policies, at the intersection of Sample Road and University Drive on Saturday morning.
“We stand in solidarity, demonstrating that people have influence and that anyone can express opposition to government policy. We oppose the Trump administration and its policies of kidnapping black and brown people,” said Bakowski.
Cortney Donovan, a member of Joyful Resistance, participated in the protest with her mother, Katherine Donovan. “I would like to see Trump impeached today, and he should be removed. I believe current actions have led to military involvement that I view as unacceptable, and young people may face conscription,” Cortney said.
A large group of people, most carrying signs critical of Trump and his policies, stood along University Drive, with some on Sample Road. While some sang or played songs with antiwar themes, others expressed opposition to ICE and actions in Iran. Meanwhile, many passing drivers honked in support of the protest.
“I want to raise awareness and help change the mindset of people. People need to vote Democrat in November so Trump can be impeached,” said Bernadette Haddican.
Curt Tiefenbrun, president of the Coral Springs Parkland Democratic Club, said, “We need to make our voices heard. I am concerned about economic issues. We need to vote for Democrats in November,” he said.
Patti Lynn, a Tamarac resident, participated in the protest with her friends. “I am against the policies of Trump, and we need people to vote for Democratic candidates in November,” she said.
The No Kings Protest in Coral Springs was one of many demonstrations in South Florida and across the nation opposing the Trump administration and its recent federal actions.
