The J.P. Taravella girls’ cross-country team earned 9th place out of 32 teams at the Spanish River Invitational on September 20 in Boca Raton.
Olivia Noel and Valentina Castillo ran well for the Trojans, according to Coach Dawn Spann. “Overall, the girls’ team had a good showing, and I believe we can make it to the state meet,” she said.
Spann was disappointed with the boys’ performance and said she hopes they can improve for the city championship and district meets. Craig Dennis was the leading Trojan runner.
The Coral Springs Charter girls’ team earned third place in the division for smaller schools on September 19. Lily Richardson and Cecilia Kozlowski ran well for Charter. Lucas Werth, for the boys’ team, was the leading runner for the Panthers. “Our runners did very well at this large invitational meet,” said Coach Brantley Barr.
Coral Glades brought runners to the meet, and Fabio Castillo was among the leading boys’ runners. Olivia Higgins of Coral Springs was among the leading girls’ runners.
All of the runners are looking forward to the upcoming Northwest Area Cross-Country Championships at Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek on September 25. All the high school cross-country teams from Coral Springs, Parkland, and Coconut Creek are expected to participate. There will also be a middle school competition.
