Interact Club Organized at Coral Glades High School

Alyssa Harris, a senior at Coral Glades High School, has taken on a significant responsibility as the president of the school’s new Interact Club.

The Interact Club is receiving support from the Rotary Club of Coral Springs. Steve Beauchamp, a teacher at Coral Glades High School, serves as the club’s advisor. The organization now has eight officers and about 25 committed members who attend meetings twice a month.

“My goal is to increase our members and do more service projects. I want to work with other clubs at Coral Glades and have fun,” said Harris.

She has a 5.1 grade point average and is an accomplished violin player in the school’s orchestra. Harris earned a superior with distinction at last year’s solo ensemble.

Interact recently held its first service project, preparing an apartment at CityHouse in Fort Lauderdale. The Interact members painted cabinets and cleaned up the apartment that will provide a home for a single mother and her children.

“The Interact students really worked hard, got dirty, and did a good job for us. We are opening a new apartment building for mothers who need a home,” said Lisa Wanamaker, executive director of CityPlace. This organization provides housing for single mothers in need.

Interact also plans to work with SOS Children’s Villages Florida in Coconut Creek, according to Harris.
