A Coral Springs man with a history of public exposure was arrested after police say he was caught masturbating in a motel parking lot.
According to a Coral Springs Police Department arrest report, Jonathan Hermanphillip Smith, 39, of Coral Springs, was taken into custody on February 15 and charged with exposure of sexual organs.
According to the officers, the incident began when they responded to the Studio 6 Motel at 5645 North University Drive following a report of a man, later identified as Smith, masturbating in the parking lot beside a vehicle. An officer arrived minutes later and located the vehicle parked near one of the motel buildings.
Officers noted in the report that upon arrival, Smith matched the description provided by the complainant and was standing near the driver’s side door, with an open jar of petroleum jelly with the cap removed visible inside the vehicle.
The caller told police she was sitting in her car using her cell phone when she observed Smith exit his vehicle, pull his pants down to his knees, and begin masturbating. She reported the act lasted between five and ten minutes and said she took two photographs with her phone, which officers viewed.
During an interview, Smith admitted to pulling his pants down and exposing himself, but claimed he was urinating. Officers noted in the affidavit that a 7-11 with public restrooms was located nearby.
A records check revealed Smith had previously been arrested in November 2023 by the Miami Gardens Police Department on an indecent exposure charge.
Smith was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He was later released after posting a $1,000 bond.
