Arheanna Bryan stands out as a leading force in girls’ wrestling.
During a national high school wrestling tournament in Virginia Beach on March 27-29, Bryan, a junior at J.P. Taravella High School, earned sixth place in the 185-pound weight category. She competed in a 64-person bracket and wrestled nine girls from across the nation, according to coach Michael Bazos.
“I was really happy that I had the experience of competing in a national wrestling tournament and placing. I think I will do great at the next tournament because I have a feel for what I have to work on,” said Bryan.
Bryan’s success at this tournament earned her national All-American honors and qualified her to compete in the U.S. Open Nationals in Las Vegas on April 22. “This was a really tough tournament, and she competed well. She has been phenomenal and doing all the hard work and will continue building off her success,” said Bazos.
Colleges with women’s wrestling programs are actively recruiting Bryan, who is currently ranked number one in Florida for girls’ wrestling in the 190-pound weight class and took second place at the state championships.
