The race for city commission seats are underway and fundraising parties are being held throughout the city.
Last week, candidate Howard Melamed who is running for seat four held his kickoff and fundraising party at the Smart Publishing Art Gallery. City Commissioner Claudette Bruck who currently holds the seat will be unable to run again due to term limits.
Friends came out in support of Melamed, a 22-year resident of Coral Springs. Both he and his wife have been married for 35 years and have two grandchildren. Their children attended public schools and are both graduates of J.P. Taravella High School. Melamed is the owner and CEO of CellAntenna Corporation which is a multinational, multimillion dollar company located in the city.
“I absolutely love it here,” Melamed told the crowd. “Our city is absolutely fantastic. My goal is to make it even better.”
Melamed often writes articles on his website that others may disagree with, especially those that are in office. Residents can often see him at commission meetings asking tough questions.
“I’m not someone who is the status quo. I make sure the checks and balances are in place.” – Howard Melamed
Rabbi Avraham Friedman with Chabad of Coral Springs believes that Melamed truly loves his city. “He thinks outside of the box and is not afraid to ask questions in a respectful, but friendly manner. Howard will be a genuine advocate of the city of Coral Springs. He has unquestionable integrity.”
One of the issues that Melamed has been passionate about is education. A graduate of McGill University with a degree in Civil Engineering, his name “Melamed” means teacher in Hebrew. He told his supporters that there were many teachers in his family.
He said that building bigger government buildings is not going to attract new families to Coral Springs. What will attract them is better schools. Using Parkland as a model, Melamed says they are putting a lot of money into their schools and he wants the same for his city.
“I came to Coral Springs because the schools were great,” said Melamed, “I’m for increasing our commitment to schools….better schools equal better property values.”
Beverly Rothstein, Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway said, “Howard has the vision to reignite the spark in this city to draw young families back into Coral Springs by making the schools what they were, and what they can be again.”

This is the same guy who is being investigated for repeated campaign law violations, yet no mention from the reporter on that. Or the fact that the reporter is wearing his campaign badge. Guess journalistic integretrity is gone.
You obviously weren’t at Tom Powers kickoff when I wore a name tag that read “I’m supporting Tom Powers for Mayor” Will do the same at all the kickoffs.
I was not at either kickoff, but I saw the picture here of you wearing the badge. I dont think there is a need for any media member to wear something favoring one campaign over another. But how come there is no comment on him being investigated by the state?
Steve, why weren’t you asking about my article on Tom Powers I just wrote, and why didn’t I bring up the fact that he was suspended for alleged sunshine violations? Based on your logic, I should write everyone’s full bio in every article, right?
Didn’t know about any alleged violations of Powers, but now I can look it up. Thank you for the info. It’s easier to put it all out there. Didn’t want to be offensive, but I guess it came out that way. For that, I’m sorry.
So along with that reasoning you would probably have to tell the whole story. The one where they were cleared and then the city manager and attorney quit, rather quickly. There’s some food for thought.
