By Kevin Deutsch

The Broward County Public Schools district is looking to hire personnel to protect its students.

America’s sixth-largest school district is actively recruiting candidates for various school campus security positions including campus monitors, security specialists, and armed school guardians, district officials said in a recent announcement.

Campus Monitors

Campus monitors must be at least 21 and have a minimum of four years of “successful work experience” within the last eight years, according to a BCPS job post.

Campus monitors will start at $15 per hour and can work up to a top wage of $21.46 per hour, according to the post.

Security Specialists

Security specialists must be at least 21, must have earned a high school diploma or GED, and must have a minimum of four years of experience in a field related to the position within the last eight years.

Related experience can include prior work in security, law enforcement, or juvenile justice, among other fields.

The salary range for security specialists is $28.24 to $32.74 per hour.

Armed School Guardians

Armed school guardians must either have a minimum of two years experience as a sworn law enforcement officer within the last 10 years, be an armed security guard with a valid State of Florida D and G security license, or have been a corrections officer in “good standing” at the time of their employment separation, according to the district.

Two years of prior military experience with an honorable discharge, including military reservist experience, may be substituted for law enforcement experience, according to the district.

The salary range for armed school guardians is $17.69 to $27.24 per hour.

The school district’s Office of Safety, Security, and Emergency Preparedness is overseeing the candidate search.
