Coral Springs High School was one of five Broward high schools that increased graduation rates by three or more percentage points for the 2023-24 school year, notching a graduation rate of over 98 percent, the school district said Friday,
Compared to the 2022-2023 school year, the school at 7201 Sample Road improved its graduation rate by three percentage points, from 95.1 percent in 2022-2023 to 98.1 percent for 2023-2024, state data shows.
The other Broward high schools that improved by three percentage points or more last year were Boyd Anderson High School (5.1 percentage points), Charles Flanagan High School (3.7 percentage points), Hollywood Hills High School (three percentage points), and South Plantation High School (3.1 percentage points).
Among other area high schools, Coral Glades High School notched a 97.3 percent graduation rate last year, down from 97.9 percent in 2022-2023.
Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and J.P. Taravella High School both saw improvements in their graduation rates in 2023-2024. MSD rated its graduation percentage from 98.5 percent to 99 percent.
Taravella recorded a 93.9 percent graduation rate last year, up from 93.5 percent in 2023.
According to the data, made public by the Florida Department of Education for the 2023-2024 school year Friday, 34 of Broward’s 36 traditional high schools graduated 90 percent or more of their students last year.
Twenty-four of those Broward schools notched a graduation rate of 95 percent or higher – two more schools than reached that mark in 2023, the data shows.
The overall graduation rate for the county’s traditional high schools rose to 89 percent in 2024, up from 88.7 percent in 2023.
“Ensuring our students complete their high school education with the knowledge, tools, and academic foundation to be successful in their post-secondary pursuits is critical,” BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn said in a written statement Friday. “Our School Board members and I are proud of our schools – our teachers, administrators, and staff – for maintaining their focus on our students’ needs and helping our schools continue to raise graduation rates. The notable increases at many of our high schools are to be commended and celebrated.”
Broward is the sixth-largest public school district in the nation and the second-largest in Florida, with more than 247,000 enrolled students.
