A man faces charges of sexual abuse and false imprisonment of a child after a victim told police how he continually assaulted her on multiple occasions over an extended period of time.
On June 5, 2023, authorities took Jaime Joel Contreras Medina, 26, of Coral Springs, into custody by the Coral Springs Police Department at his residence near the block of 10200 Northwest 36th Street following allegations of child abuse.
The arrest came after a victim alleged Medina, who is described as a family member of the victim in the report, abused her on multiple occasions between October 2019 and February 2020 inside her home.
According to statements made to CSPD on May 29, the victim described to law enforcement how Medina would forcefully grab her from behind and force her into a bedroom, specifically when her mother was not home.
The victim told investigators that Media, despite her pleas, refused to let her leave and that on several instances when she attempted to escape, Medina would lock the door and continue subjecting her to abuse, according to the police report.
Records show the victim alleged that while inside the room, Medina would digitally penetrate her vagina and force her to repeatedly touch his penis.
The victim estimated to law enforcement that similar incidents occurred more than ten times throughout the months-long abuse. She also told officers that she was only now reporting the string of abuse because when she was younger, she was afraid no one would believe her claims and that she was also hesitant because Medina is a family member.
Following the victim’s statement and an initial investigation, CSPD conducted a controlled phone call on May 29 between Medina and a family member of the victim in which he adamantly denied the allegations, claiming that any contact he had with the victim was in a “loving way.”
Medina denied any inappropriate touching, particularly of her private parts, and indicated if the victim had seen him naked, it was only by accident when he was changing clothes.
However, as the conversations progressed, Medina’s responses contradicted his earlier statements. He eventually expressed concern about other family members discovering the situation and repeatedly asked if her stepfather was aware of their conversation.
According to the arrest report, Medina eventually admitted to the possibility of accidentally abusing the victim while playing, suggesting it may have occurred around three times and only as a result of the victim “jumping.”
In an attempt to address the allegations privately, Medina asked if he could speak with the victim herself in person to explain his actions, but when told that was not going to happen, he began to recall specific instances when the victim entered his room with coloring books, suggesting that the abuse may have taken place on that occasion.
Following the incriminating controlled phone conversations, CSPD arrested Medina on June 5.
Medina was transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where he is being held without bond.
