This past week, the regional track and field championships took place, with all four schools sending athletes to the State Championship.
Coral Springs High School’s boys’ and girls’ teams came in fourth place, highlighted by a win from Jeffrey Belizaire. He competed in the 800 meters, while Sebastian Marrero came in the top five in two events: second in the 400 hurdles and fifth in the 110 hurdles. Cashmere Samuels placed third in the pole vault while Dawlthon Charite was 10th in the shot put. The Colts also had Matthew Wykpisz qualify in the 1600 and 3200 meters, while Charite competed in the shot put and discus.
The girls’ team was led by Trinety Dajuste, who came in second in the high jump, third in the long jump, and sixth in the triple jump. The Colts also had their 4 x 400 relay, with Olivia Higgins, Gabriella Gentilhomme, Destinee Cole, and Christina Glasco coming in second. Sophia Evans placed third in the pole vault, and Kaela Burke came fourth in the discus. Burke also competed in the shot put, with Janelle Swaby qualifying in the shot put.
Both J.P. Taravella teams finished just outside the top ten after Benjamin Joseph placed third in the triple jump. Akeil Kidd, Ty’Quez Jenkins, and Joseph all had top-ten finishes, while Scardy Fils, JahRee Pierre, Elijah Vessells, and Akeem Beckford placed fifth in their relay race. Jada Thelwell led the girls team and came in fourth in the 400 meters. She was also a part of the 4 x 400 relay team that came in third with Olivia Noel, Raquel Arne, and Timya Johnson. JPT had two other relay teams place eighth, while Arne also placed ninth in the 400 meters.
Coral Glades will have two student-athletes competing at State after Camile Camper comes in second in the javelin and Nekaya Welt earns a runner-up finish in the discus. The Jaguars also had strong results from Isaiah Godfrey, placing sixth in the 100 and 200 meters, while Welt also placed seventh in the shot put
Coral Springs Charter ran at Calvary Christian Academy, led by its girls’ team, coming in fifth place. Adrianna Harris took first in the shot put, and Kendall Parttott won the 3200 meters. Harris also came in third in the discus, while Parrott placed in the top five in the 1600 meters.
Anabella Thornberry added a fourth-place finish in the pole vault, along with Ava Dorvil, Reagan Pinkston, Jordin Sawyer, and Sydney Leath coming sixth in the 4 x 100 relay. Lily Richardson, Alyson Thomas, Taylor Hartley, and Parrott came in sixth in the 4 x 800 relay while Richardson, Chelsea Garbizo, Sarah Manigat, and Gianna Barnes ran in the 4 x 400. Trinity Dorvil and Anayah Bell each came in the top ten.
The boys’ team came in 18th place, with their success coming in the pole vault. Daylen Martineau came in fourth, followed by Drew Maniscalco, Jordan Head, and Chase Powell, who placed seventh through ninth. William Urena and Shaun Blum also earned a point after coming in eighth in the triple jump, as they also had their 4 x 400 relay come in eighth with Justin Laroche, Gerald Tibbetts, Beylian Dejesus, and Blum.
