A Coral Springs woman working as a payroll manager is accused of stealing more than $1.5 million from a Miami doctor’s office through unauthorized bonuses, inflated paychecks, and company credit card purchases, police said.
According to a Miami Police Department arrest report, Rachel Lynne Poor, 40, was arrested on May 21 and charged with first-degree grand theft, organized scheme to defraud, and credit card fraud after investigators said she secretly inflated her own paychecks and awarded herself unauthorized bonuses for more than two years.
According to the report, Poor worked as the payroll manager for Miami Back & Neck Specialists, located at 4770 Biscayne Boulevard in Miami’s Bay Point neighborhood.
Police said the orthopedic surgeon who owns the practice contacted authorities in June 2024 after a newly hired payroll manager uncovered suspicious financial activity tied to Poor’s payroll records.
Investigators allege that Poor manipulated payroll data in ADP, the company’s payroll processor, by falsely identifying herself as the business owner during account setup. Detectives said this gave her full administrative control over payroll functions, including salaries, bonuses, payment approvals, and account permissions.
Authorities said that between September 2021 and January 2024, Poor increased her biweekly salary by approximately $1,720 and issued herself unauthorized bonuses of up to $25,000 at a time. Police estimate the unauthorized payroll payments totaled $1,092,692.
Investigators also accused Poor of making an additional $411,737 in unauthorized personal purchases using a company credit card.
Miami Police detectives traveled to Broward County on Thursday and arrested Poor at her Coral Springs home, according to the report.
Poor was transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where she was being held Friday afternoon on a $35,000 bond.
