After crashing several times since its rollout on Saturday, the vaccination appointment site for Broward County is completely booked, asking users to check back later. However, there is hope later in the week.
Broward County Commissioner Michael Udine said by Thursday appointments should open up at Vista View Park and Holiday Park, joining sites already in operation at Markham Park and Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek.
“Demand is greatly outpacing supply. Plus, there needs to be a more effective way to sign people up for these shots. I know they are starting at different senior facilities. I will continue to push and follow up,” he said.
Managed by the Florida Department of Health, the four vaccination sites available to Udine’s constituents have already provided 26,465 COVID-19 vaccination appointments to residents ages 65 and up.
Once a dose is administered, the patient must return for a second of either the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine after three weeks have passed. The vaccines are not interchangeable and are offered by appointment only.
By executive order signed by Governor Ron DeSantis on December 23, only long-term care facility residents and staff, health care personnel with direct patient contact, and those deemed especially vulnerable to COVID-19 by their doctors are being vaccinated.
Floridians are also encouraged to opt-in to receive updates about the COVID-19 vaccine via text at FLCOVID19 to 888777.
