I was invited to attend the “soft opening” of the new Divieto Ristorante by Talk Media owner Sharon Aron Baron.
Typically, I never attend events like this because I don’t like the fact that you don’t pay. When I review places, I always pay my own way.
With that said, I wanted to attend this because it’s near my house, and I’ve watched them transform this old Applebee’s (of which I was a regular customer) into a beautiful establishment. Now, it’s hard to imagine it was ever an Applebee’s. By the way, shout out to the old Applebee’s Bartenders Jackie and Candy, who were excellent…Miss y’all.
Divieto took about two years to construct, and it was time well spent because it looks gorgeous, especially the outside patio and the partially finished private wine room.
According to Divieto Sales Manager Ana Rust, the response from residents has been great, with over 300 reservations made for this upcoming week.
The Experience
I’m not going to break down/critique the meal or service. A soft opening is for the staff/management to practice. Most successful restaurants have these soft openings to make your dining experience excellent when they officially open. The official opening date is Monday, April 8, 2024.
Each dining/table section was given a different fixed menu. You could not order anything outside the menu except coffee, sparkling water, or tea.
Our party of four enjoyed everything we ate. The craft cocktails were not my style because I’m a beer drinker and a Mai Kai Restaurant Tropical Drink Master, but I could definitely see how some people would love them.
The service was smooth and efficient. Lucky for me, I recognized our server, who used to work at El Mariachi on University near Game Night Bar/Arcade. I also recognized the bar manager who worked at Bru’s Room in Coral Springs. Everyone was welcoming and extremely friendly. So great job!
Verdict
Much like Chef Bruno’s new Livello Italian Restaurant, which is excellent, Divieto should be very popular. It will be up to you to decide how popular it becomes. My gut says folks in our area will love it. Obviously, the more they practice, the better it will get.
Divieto Ristorante will celebrate the grand opening of its newest location with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held by the Coral Springs Coconut Creek Regional Chamber of Commerce on Monday, April 8, at 4:00 p.m. Register here.
The Coral Springs location joins their Doral, Aventura, and Estero restaurants—a great addition to Restaurant Row on University Drive. I wish them the best of success. Welcome to the neighborhood, Divieto Ristorante!
